G2 Auckland TR Eclipse Stakes - 1st January
Widden Stud Victoria’s Star Witness celebrated the New Year in style, as his 2YO daughter, Bellatrix Star (ex Alana’s Party) booked her ticket to the Karaka Million. Trained by Mark Walker & Sam Bergerson, she came with a strong run once in the clear to record a stylish victory for owners Fortuna Racing. She is a Victorian bred, her breeder being Rob Dunnett, who sold her at Karaka 2023 through Phoenix Park to her owners and David Ellis.
Abounding (Rich Enuff x Transonic)
(Restricted) Listed GCTC Magic Millions Guineas - 13th January
3YO filly Abounding (ex Transonic) bounded clear of her rivals on the Gold Coast, to give her Woodside Park Stud-based sire, Rich Enuff victory. She was bred in Queensland by Telemon Thoroughbreds, and sold at Magic Millions Yearling Sale to owners First Light Racing and trainer Robert Heathcote for $75,000.
Quintessa (Shamus Award x Chaquinta)
G1 WRC Levin Classic - 13th January
On the same day, 3YO filly Quintessa (ex Chaquinta) landed the G1 Levin Classic for her sire, Rosemont Stud’s Shamus Award. She was bred in New Zealand by Peachester Lodge Party, and sold to David Ellis for $170,000. She recorded her first G1 in the race, for trainers Mark Walker & Sam Bergerson.

Hayasugi (Royal Meeting x China Road)
G3 MRC Blue Diamond Preview (fillies) - 26th January
Irish-bred stallion, Royal Meeting, who now resides in Victoria at Leneva Park stamped himself as a first-season sire to follow, as his daughter Hayasugi (ex China Road) beat a good-looking field at Flemington for trainer Clinton McDonald. Bred in NSW, she was sold by Fairhill Farm as a weanling through Inglis to James Bester Bloodstock and her owner C Mok. She certainly looks a filly to follow this Autumn!

G2 MVRC Australia Stakes - 27th January
Second season sire Grunt’s best son, Veight (ex Neena Rock) won his second G2 as he impressed for trainers Tony & Calvin McEvoy when taking out the G2 Australia Stakes. Bred by Yulong, who stand the stallion, he was bought by Sledmere Stud at Magic Millions weanling sale for $100,000, before he sold as a yearling to his trainers and Belmont Bloodstock for $220,000.

Listed Karaka 2YO Millions - 27th January
Under a typically brilliant James McDonald ride, Written Tycoon’s 2YO daughter, Velocious (ex Parmalove) stormed clear of her rivals to win the Karaka 2YO Millions for owners Go Racing
