Longwood Thoroughbred Farm
Michael Christian’s Longwood Thoroughbred Farm will take a draft of 11 horses to next month’s Magic Millions Yearling Sale, and the team will be aiming for the same success as 2023.
$1.45 million is the magic number for Christian in 2024, having sold a Zoustar filly out of Fuddle Dee Duddle for this price in 2023. Longwood will once again walk the progeny of Fuddle Dee Duddle, the dam of Rosemont Breeding Alliance’s stakes winner Brereton, through the ring with lot 693 being the full-brother to both the 2023 filly and the stakes-winning colt.
Christian said that this colt is a very similar type to both his stakes-winning brother and seven-figure sister.
“He’s a well put-together, athletic colt, much in the mould of his sister who made $1.45 million this year,” Christian said.
“That filly is showing enormous potential with Mick Price and Michael Kent Jr, so I am really excited to present the full-brother to her at Magic Millions in 2024. Being the full-brother to Brereton, I am just so excited to be selling him.”
A filly by Yulong’s Written Tycoon will take to the ring as lot 230, out of the mare Special Diva. From the same family as Furious Stakes winner North Star Lass, this pedigree alone will have buyers chasing a future star broodmare prospect.
“She’s coming along really well and I am really happy with her,” Christian said. “She’s a beautifully balanced, forward filly from a wonderful two-year-old family. We are just very excited to get her to the Coast and see what she can make.”
Christian, alongside Sheamus Mills, paid $1.45 million for Group 1 place getter Ellicazoom at the 2022 Inglis Chairman’s Sale when she was in-foal to I Am Invincible. Subsequently, lot 622 was foaled-down and Christian couldn’t be happier with how the filly has prepped towards this sale.
“She’s a beautiful filly. The I Am Invincible fillies are doing a great job,” Christian said. “The mare was an absolute superstar. The filly is a beautiful size and has a lot of quality about her.”
With a double-figure draft, Christian noted lot numbers 455 and 872 as colts to watch from the Victorian draft, both with quality pedigrees and plenty of potential.
“There’s a Wootton Bassett out of Avenue Of Pleasure colt (lot 455), which makes him closely related to Hypothetical who won a stakes race over the Spring Carnival,” Christian said. “We bought the mare in-foal to Wootton Bassett at the Chairman’s Sale and we couldn’t be happier with the subsequent colt. He is an absolute beast.
“We have another by Anders out of a stakes-producing mare called Landing Zone who is a really nice cut of a colt.
“We are taking a beautiful draft and are really excited as we head up to the Gold Coast.”
Well renowned for breeding and racing superstar sprinter Bella Nipotina, Christian touched on his immense pride in the top-level performances from the mare and what the foreseeable future holds.
“We will take her one run at a time with a four-race preparation planned for her in the autumn, but it was a career peak in The Giga Kick beating Private Eye and Think About It.
“She’s been an incredible mare. The durability – there’s not too many mares in particular that can run as an October two-year-old still running career peaks four years later.
